Colleen Rortvedt Ready to Transition into her New Role as Appleton Public Library Director

Link to November 22 Appleton Post-Crescent article, "New Appleton Public Library director Colleen Rortvedt prepares to lead".

Excerpt: In her role, she will be responsible for making herself more visible and reaching out to the community, especially where talk about a new library comes up.

"I feel badly when people misconstrue that we just want a shiny, new bigger box. It's not about that. It's about having an efficient operation that we can provide contemporary service, service that is flexible, service that will change, because the library will change," Rortvedt said.

"In 20 years we need a building that's still as flexible as it is when it gets built, whether it's a remodeled or a new building. It needs to be flexible."

Studies done in 2008 and 2009 recommended a new library.

A capital facilities committee appointed by the Common Council last year also determined the city should have a single library in the downtown, not a branch
