Quinn Clark reports:
Jim Brownlow is representing himself at his upcoming trial in Muskego Municipal Court. The charge: disorderly conduct, after he wrote "Jan. 6" on the sidewalk outside the Muskego Post Office in chalk.
Brownlow, 77, wrote the message on Jan. 6, 2025, in reference to the 2021 riot in which a mob breached the U.S. Capitol as Congress met to certify the presidential election results.
He was arrested weeks later at his home, handcuffed and cited with criminal damage to property, later amended to disorderly conduct.
A municipal citation of disorderly conduct is considered an ordinance violation, not a criminal charge. If convicted, Brownlow faces a fine of up to $565.
To Brownlow, the case represents larger concerns about the limits of protected speech. The case has stretched on for more than a year, forcing him into repeated court appearances, extensive preparation and a steady undercurrent of stress, he said.
As a librarian, Brownlow said his work focuses on learning from history and passing those lessons on. He said he wrote the message as a reminder that the Capitol attack should not be forgotten.

Not surprisingly, it's a MAGA kind of place. Trump received two-thirds of the vote in 2024.
