Eighteen percent of Iowans are at least 65 years old. You might think threats to their livelihoods would spur lawmakers to action. [emphasis added]
Well, the livelihoods of many of those Iowans are threatened. The White House is engaged in a multi-pronged dismantling of Social Security, a social insurance program that allows older Americans to live with dignity after a lifetime of paying to provide the same insurance for their elders.
The Register editorial board has already criticized Sen. Chuck Grassley and Sen. Joni Ernst this year for either cheerleading President Donald Trump’s foolish and possibly illegal actions or biting their tongues. And what’s happening with Social Security is despicable and devastating.
Our senators should start leading the outcry against Trump putting Social Security benefits in danger.
