Excerpts:
Preliminary data from the official National Weather Service rain gauge at Furnace Creek recorded 2.20 inches of rain – the park’s average annual rainfall. Once verified, this would be the single rainiest day in Furnace Creek history beating the record of 1.7 inches set August 5, 2022.  (NPS)
The state-run WAM news agency called the rain Tuesday “a historic weather event” that surpassed “anything documented since the start of data collection in 1949.” That's before crude oil was discovered in this energy-rich nation then part of a British protectorate known as the Trucial States.  (U.S. News)

This recent deluge in the Middle East, notably affecting Dubai and Oman, brings to light the pressing concerns regarding the influence of climate change on extreme weather events.  (Social Perspectives)
The National Weather Service (NWS) meteorologists urged people in some northern New Mexico desert communities to "climb to safety" on early Thursday morning as a deluge of rain pummeled the region.  (Newsweek)
