Dennis Hayes Ends His 56-Year Career @ the Jersey City Free Public Library

Dennis Hayes, 77, is retiring as assistant director of the Jersey City Free Public Library 56 years after joining staff as part-time junior clerk. (Jersey City Journal, 9/29/2011)

ExcerptThe library’s assistant director for the past nine years, Hayes started his career as a part-time junior library clerk earning 50 cents an hour. He’s held several titles since, but his patience, understanding and passion for the work has never waned.

I was in kindergarten when Dennis started to work at the Jersey City Free Public Library
