Lincoln Library could go back to 7 days a week, Houston says. (State Register-Journal, 5/17/2011)
Mayor Mike Houston said Tuesday he is trying to find the $35,000 needed to have the city’s public library open seven days a week. He said he expects to bring a proposal to aldermen by the end of May.
“Being closed on Sundays, we really eliminate a large number of people who need the library,” Houston said.
Aldermen voted in February 2009 to keep the two library branches open by reducing hours at both the branches and at the downtown library. The branches were ultimately closed anyway, but Sunday hours were not restored downtown.
The downtown library, Seventh Street and Capitol Avenue, is currently open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays; from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Thursdays and Fridays; and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturdays.
