Hudson Area Library Begins Strategic Planning Process

Committee is formulating a vision for the library.   (Hudson Star-Observer, 1/7/2011)

Excerpt: “The key of knowing what you need is knowing what the library should be,” said Rob Howard, North Hudson’s representative on the library board and the chair of its communications subcommittee. “We’re kind of reinventing the library. We need to know who we are.”

The process started in early November when Steve and Terri Wilcox led a visioning session attended by 35 residents of the four municipalities served by the library.

Over the past decade the Wilcoxes have led similar planning sessions for corporations, nonprofits and Rotary clubs through their business Resultants for Business Inc.

The library group went through a brainstorming process identifying: 1. What the library stands for; 2. Its attributes; 3. Its programs, projects and activities; 4. Its marketing and communication efforts; 5. Its future functions; and 6. What the library’s facilities will look like and be used for.

The group picked building partnerships with businesses, the arts community, nonprofit organizations and schools as a top priority.

It also embraced sponsoring Chautauqua-style programs, more adult programming and purchasing the entire 700 First St. building — along with numerous other goals
