Excerpt: In all, about 115 residents reported basement flooding or sewer back ups. The hardest hit areas were near the Glen Ellyn Public Library and also the Village Links Golf Course, Buckley said. 

The pro shop and maintenance facility became islands and were inaccessible, but there was no damage to the inside of the buildings. Staff there told Buckley it was the worst flooding since 1972.

Located in DuPage County, Glen Ellyn (population 27,450) is 25 miles west of Chicago.

Excerpt: Concerned with possible cuts to funding for the public library, residents filled the Township Council meeting urging elected officials not to reduce the amount of money the library will get in the 2013 budget. 

The state this year is giving only about $1.28 million in what's called minimum funding [see document below] to the Scotch Plains Public Library, a reduction of $47,000 from 2012, Mayor Kevin Glover said in an interview.

Excerpt: Circulation in Wayne and throughout the BCCLS consortium has dropped since 2009. That year, throughout the BCCLS system circulation reached a peak of 12.4 million, White said. It has dropped to about 11.6 million in 2012. And in Wayne, circulation has dropped from more than 536,000 since 2009 to more than 479,000 in 2012.
