Jim Higgins reports:
Scheduled for completion and opening in 2027, the history center will be at 30 N. Carroll St., across from the State Capitol. The new $160.5 million history center will be a five-story, 100,000-square-foot facility, designed to accommodate more than 200,000 visitors and 60,000 school students annually, according to fact sheets distributed by the Wisconsin Historical Society. It will have more than double the exhibit space of the prior history museum.
WHS has dubbed the new facility a center rather than a museum in line with its vision of "a dynamic cultural hub that transcends the traditional museum experience. … It will feature state-of-the-art digital technology to serve and engage the public both in-person and virtually, (and) host a variety of programming," according to a posting on its website.
