In 2012, Dayspring abruptly left a top post with then-House Majority Leader Eric Cantor after what was called a "a heated, nearly physical confrontation" with another Cantor staffer. Politico referred to Dayspring at the time as one of the House Republican Conference's "most controversial operatives" and "a lightning rod for controversy inside the GOP leadership.
