Community leaders frustrated by Hwy. 23 delay. (Fond du Lac Reporter, 5/26/2015)
The U.S. Eastern District Court on Friday halted a road project that would have expanded Highway 23 into a four-lane highway between Fond du Lac and Plymouth. The court upheld some of the claims in a lawsuit filed in 2011 by 1000 Friends of Wisconsin, concluding that the project needs more information on how population projections and traffic forecasts were produced to justify the project.
The ruling cuts off federal funding for the project, and the agencies are required to prepare a document that explains exactly how they arrived at future traffic volumes and consider new population data. A status hearing is scheduled for June 1.
