But the company also grabbed lots of attention with its new Ford GT, a wildly aerodynamic, niche sports car that only few consumers could ever afford.
The two-door GT coupe will go into production this year, and Ford is planning to build only a few thousand. While Ford has not disclosed a price, industry analysts said the GT’s sticker price would be well above $100,000.
With its swooping design and low, wide stance, the GT resembles an exotic, European-made sports car from decades past. Its 600-horsepower engine stirs memories of Detroit’s fixation on speed in the 1960s, when the first GT was developed to compete in the famed Le Mans racing event.
