Andy Pennell, Appleton Public Library Volunteer Extraordinaire
Excerpt: Andy Pennell loves to read.
When he was 12, he found a way to give back to his favorite place, the AppletonPublic Library.
“The library has been a good fit for me because I love books and I love volunteering,” said Pennell, 19, a student at the University of Wisconsin-Fox Valley in Menasha. “Over the years the library has meant a lot to me. I would encourage others to get involved volunteering in whatever they are interested in in our community.”
Pennell, of Appleton, was home-schooled and began volunteering after he saw a flier advertising that the library was looking for volunteers for its summer program.
“I decided to give it a try,” he said.
He was hooked and has given hundreds of hours since, serving in a variety of capacities over the years.
