This item costs $199 so you just imagine how pricey the smartshoe is. (Update: USA Today reports that the shoes will go on sale 'later in the year' for $499. I'll pass.)

The French start-up describes its $450 (£305) shoes as being "trendy". We'll leave that to you to decide, but can't help wonder if people really want to have to recharge their clothing.
