Dealing with a lock-'em-up-and-throw-away-the-key mentality? Several legislators who turned out vowed to investigate whether the Department of Corrections is holding prisoners unnecessarily past their eligible parole dates, and how extensively and under what circumstances it is using solitary confinement.

Wisconsin leads the nation, by an embarrassingly large margin, in incarceration of African American men.

The whole world may not be watching, but this disgraceful fact has not gone unnoticed internationally.
