A large proportion of the failure to make good in business is due to some lack in pleasing personal qualities rather than to shortcomings in abilities and training.  The purpose of the Stenographers' Club, therefore, was to make a study of behavior and of job requirements.  The study included business etiquette, business ethics, and all the qualifications that have to do with character and temperament.
During the year business skits and plays were given which illustrated the personal application, the proper use of the telephone, and the handling of office callers.  Several books were reviewed at meetings, and shorthand and typewriting contests were held.  Programs stressed the importance of tact, poise, initiative, reliability, cooperativeness, and adaptability.

Margaret's first husband, Elmer Bloom, was president of the Stenographers' Club during the first semester.  Elmer died on October 8, 1968,

Hugely popular song during the summer of 1940
