Let it rain. Wisconsin Manufacturers & Commerce, the state business lobby, and the Wisconsin Realtors Association have both registered in support of SB655 [co-sponsored by State Senate Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald and State Senator Mary Lazich], which, among other things, would repeal a law that previously prohibited lobbyists from making contributions before June of an election year. Under the proposed changes, lobbyists could begin making contributions on April 15, the day when candidates may begin gathering signatures to get on the ballot.
The point of the current law is to prevent lobbyists from contributing to legislators during the legislative session, which usually runs into the early spring of an election year.
