UPDATE: It was two years ago when the Apple Store moved from West Towne to Hilldale

And the space remains vacant, though partially obscured by posters now.

West Towne has another vacancy next door.

All area Charming Charlie stores to close as company shuts down.  (Milwaukee Business News, 7/16/2019)
The decision comes after Charming Charlie closed 100 underperforming stores as part of an earlier Chapter 11 filing, which ultimately was unable “to stabilize businesses and ensure long-term profitability,” the company said in a court statement.
The company also cited challenges brought on by the continuous decline of brick-and-mortar retail nationwide.
Recent closures or downsizings include big box retailers such as Bon-Ton, Sears and Macy’s as well as boutique-style retailers such as Dress Barn, Payless ShoeSource, Charlotte Russe, Gymboree and Claire’s.

The Apple Store move has been rumored for months, but officials at West Towne and Hilldale had declined to comment. Apple made no indication of the move until it recently updated its website for its West Towne location and last week unveiled an Apple logo on the facade of its Hilldale location. On Monday, the Apple website said “An inspired move. Come see us at Hilldale on August 12 at 10 a.m.”

Climate change as a matter of fact: The thawing of Siberia's permafrost

Radical warming in Siberia leaves millions on unstable ground.  (Washington Post, 10/3/2019)
A Washington Post analysis found that the region near the town of Zyryanka, in an enormous wedge of eastern Siberia called Yakutia, has warmed by more than 3 degrees Celsius since preindustrial times — roughly triple the global average.
The permafrost that once sustained farming — and upon which villages and cities are built — is in the midst of a great thaw, blanketing the region with swamps, lakes and odd bubbles of earth that render the land virtually useless.
“The warming got in the way of our good life,” said Alexander Fedorov, deputy director of the Melnikov Permafrost Institute in the regional capital of Yakutsk. “With every year, things are getting worse and worse.”
