"It's really not about jobs"??
Let's press the rewind button and find out what was really said.
As quoted in a 2/23/2010 campaign news release, "Walker Campaign: Scott Walker unveils plan to bring 250,000 jobs and 10,000 new businesses to Wisconsin by 2015 "
Seems to me we have 2 magic numbers here: 250,000 and 10,000.
A closer look at the 10,000 new businesses pledge. (PolitiFact, 8/7/2013)
- New business entities created between April 2012 and June 2013: 11,895
- Loss of state businesses during Walker's 1st 14 months in office: 4,338
- Net gain in state businesses: 7,557.
- Biggest area of business growth -- domestic limited liability corporations: 6,699
Caveat: Experts caution that the addition of business entities doesn't necessarily translate to new jobs. Most of the new registrations typically are Limited Liability Companies set up for tax or liability purposes and employ no one, two lawyers who specialize in business formations told us in when we last rated this item in 2012.
