What's the matter with Iowa? Tighty Whities take over the state

Headline:  Des Moines Register, 3/19/2025

Sabine Martin reports on how the Iowa GOP doesn't even bother to hide its racism anymore:
Rep. Ross Wilburn, a member of the Iowa Legislative Black Caucus, stood at his desk in the House chamber earlier this week to leave his fellow representatives with a final thought before adjourning for the day.
"I've shared with you in these chambers the story of my great-great-grandfather, who escaped enslavement in Missouri and joined the first colored infantry in the United States Civil War. I've also shared about my cousin, Joseph Gash, who was a Tuskegee Airman," Wilburn, D-Ames, said.
He asked Iowa's House members to "consider unintended consequences" of legislation in the House that seek to abolish diversity, equity and inclusion policies and positions in Iowa's public universities and local governments.
"When we bring up stories and concerns that we have, my colleagues, it's not a parade of horribles," Wilburn said.
