3rd-party candidates received 18.4% of vote in 1992, 

7.6% of vote in 1996, 4.8% in 2016;

Trump received 1,890 more votes than he did in 2016, a 7% increase.  But his share of the votes decreased by 0.9 percentage points.

Biden received 2,268 more votes than Clinton did in 2016, an increase of 27%. Biden increased Clinton's share of the vote by 3.9 percentage points.

But much of the disparity exists because voters have left the Democratic Party in many rural counties that are sparsely populated, but have as many elective posts as larger ones.
