Marshfield Public Library Prepares for Migration to Polaris ILS

Link to Library Director Lori Belongia's column in the Marshfield News Herald.

Excerpt:
I promised to keep you up to date on Marshfield Public Library's progress with the new Integrated Library System. Since then, we have begun the internal profiling work to ready us for migrating our data (on owned items, patrons and their transactions) to the Polaris platform. You might ask, "What do you mean by profiling?" Profiling is "Library speak" for describing our existing data and deciding how we want it to look in the new product.

You might further wonder, "What do they mean by data?" The data we are transferring includes the 156,829 item records that describe all of the material owned by the library, more than 24,500 patron records with personal information about those who use the library and transaction records that link the library material records to the patron records (i.e. who has what and for how long).
