Headline: Wisconsin State Journal, 8/14/2024
Dane County voters chose state Sen. Melissa Agard and former Dane County Sup. Dana Pellebon on Tuesday to face off for the role of Dane County executive in November.
The four-way primary was the first time in more than a decade that Dane County voters had a county executive race on their primary ballots. Whoever wins in November will be taking on a four-year term that comes with an annual $142,420 salary.
Former Dane County Executive Joe Parisi, who served in the role from 2011 until he stepped down in May, championed Agard, D-Madison, as his permanent successor.
Agard, the former Senate minority leader, boasted more than 50% of Tuesday’s vote, as well as backing from 20 key labor unions and elected officials. She’s also received significant monetary support, having raised around $241,000 by mid-July including tens of thousands of dollars transferred from her state Senate campaign committee, according to campaign finance records.
