Located in northeast Wisconsin, the 5th Assembly District comprises most of the eastern half of Outagamie County, including the city of Kaukauna, as well as the town of Hobart in western Brown County. The district also includes nearly all of the Oneida reservation spanning the two counties.
What we have here is a case of double crack, the 'cracking' of the urban fringes of Green Bay in Brown County and of Appleton in Outagamie County. Cracking is a gerrymandering practice of whereby a political party draws electoral districts that divide the population of a community or constituency across several districts. In drawing the latest version of the legislative maps, the crack addicts in the Wisconsin GOP use this tactic over and over and over again to dilute the Democratic vote.
Republican Joy Goeben has represented the district since January 2023.
