Allen called for the change in leadership in October, before President Donald Trump lost the election, by arguing that GOP legislative leaders had failed to advance a bold enough conservative agenda that reflected Trump's base. Allen maintained that view even after Trump's election loss.

Reported in Proposed Black History Month resolution honors mostly white Americans. (Wisconsin State Journal, 12/28/2019)
Six of the 10 historical figures recognized in the resolution are white Wisconsinites who were abolitionists or helped free slaves: Lyman Goodnow, Dr. Edward Galusha Dyer, Sherman Booth, Eliza Chappell Porter, Joseph Goodrich and Colonel William Utley. Others honored were black slaves.
