Roy Graber reports:
Newcastle disease in Germany\
Four of the new flock infections in Germany, according to WOAH, were in Spreenhagen. All of those involved laying hens. The largest flock included 100,000 birds, while two of the flocks had 40,000 hens. The smallest of the four flocks included 30,000 birds.
In Gangkofen, three broiler flocks were struck. Those flocks included 40,000, 15,000 and 10,000 birds.
In Bestensee, a flock of 120,000 laying hens was hit, while in Vilsbiburg, a flock of 20,000 broilers was hit.
Newcastle disease in Poland
Among the three new flocks to be struck in Poland was one in Grodzisko. That flock included 2,876 birds, all but 14 of which were pheasants. The remaining birds were either pigeons or parrots, WOAH reported.
In Kożuchów, Newcastle disease was confirmed in a flock of 38,147 birds only described as domestic poultry.
Dąbrowa Górnicza also had a flock of 5,750 birds affected. They were also only described by WOAH as domestic poultry. [emphasis added]
Newcastle disease is caused by a different type of virus than bird flu.
