Last vestige of Town of Madison within City of Madison isthmus will 'disappear' on October 31, 2022

In 12 days, on Oct. 31, the town of Madison will dissolve, the culmination of a plan the town and cities of Madison and Fitchburg agreed to in 2003. 
Under the agreement, the cities of Madison and Fitchburg will absorb the town’s fragmented pieces, fully taking over responsibility for property taxes, voting, safety, transit, parks, libraries, trash collection and more. 
Among the changes, many town residents will likely pay higher property taxes due to more comprehensive services provided by the two cities, with owners seeing initial changes in municipal tax bills to be sent out in December.

Republican candidate for governor Tim Michels is suggesting he would as governor shorten the timeframe Wisconsin residents may receive unemployment benefits should they lose their job — calling for changes to eliminate what he's calling "an entire class of lazy people” created during the coronavirus pandemic.  

No surprise that this kind of shit is going on at Michels' construction company.

Once again, Britain is leading the way: Elizabeth “Liz” Truss’s ascent to 10 Downing Street not only makes her the third British female prime minister but telegraphs to the rest of the Continent that women leaders’ time to shine is nigh. On Tuesday evening, Ms. Truss appointed a woman, Therese Coffey, to the role of deputy prime minister, and another, Suella Braverman, as the home secretary. Change is indeed in the early autumn air.

The bill follows GOP-driven "parental rights" measures in Florida and elsewhere 
The proposed federal measure is framed in terms of parents' rights, a rallying cry on the right that in the last couple years has included battles against schools' COVID-19 vaccine requirements and fervent activism against critical race theory in classrooms. 
In March, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis signed into law the "Parental Rights in Education" bill, which bans public school personnel from conducting classroom instruction on sexual orientation or gender identity in "kindergarten through grade 3 or in a manner that is not age-appropriate or developmentally appropriate for students in accordance with state standards." 
Critics of the measure dubbed the Florida law "Don't Say Gay" and argue that its intent is to marginalize LGBTQ people and their families. A cascade of other states quickly introduced similar legislation, and Alabama passed its own version of the bill into law.

UPDATE: How did a 55-gallon drum containing a flammable liquid find its way into a bonfire? Well, it certainly didn't walk there on its own.

How did a drum containing flammable liquid get onto the fire? 
Sheriff's officials have not said. They might still be pursuing the answer as they interview people who were present at the bonfire. Through interviews so far, sheriff's officials determined the explosion happened between 10:50 and 10:55 p.m. 
How big a crowd attended the party? Authorities have said roughly 60 people attended. Officials so far have been able to interview and get "verbal or written" statements from approximately 20 of them. Those in attendance included dozens of past and current students of the Pulaski Community School District. 
Nobody called emergency services about the explosion. Why not? 
Sheriff's officials don't know for certain but speculate that panic, fear of punishment and a possible belief they could reach hospitals faster in a car than by waiting for an ambulance to arrive.

The Shawano County Sheriff's Office says as many as 40 current and former Pulaski High School students were at the bonfire Friday night in the Town of Maple Grove, which is about 25 miles south of Green Bay 20 miles northwest of Green Bay.  (They still can't get it right.) 
The sheriff's office believes the explosion was triggered when someone pushed a 55-gallon drum containing diesel fuel into the fire.

The incident happened early Saturday in the town of Maple Grove, located about 30 miles south of Green Bay. The Shawano County Sheriff's Office said an accelerant was poured on the fire, causing it to burn out of control. 
The sheriff's office said that at least 17 people sought treatment on their own at local hospitals. Exact condition reports are not available, although some the injuries "range from critical, to others who have already been released from the hospital." 
The Pulaski Community School District told families in a message that some of the people involved include current and former students.  [emphasis added]
Retiring Guy suspects that alcohol was a factor.

The Town of Maple Grove in Manitowoc County is located 27.4 miles southeast of Green Bay.

"Bayview is 50 years old," said Alexis London, the foundation's executive director. "It has been for 50 years a center of really quiet promise," noted Berryman Agard. 
"This is an area of the city that used to be originally Ho-Chunk land, and then it became later on land that was settled by waves of immigrants coming into Madison — Albanians, Italians, Jewish people, African Americans. 
"Bayview has always been culturally diverse," observed Xong Vang. "Language might be a barrier, but it doesn't stop the residents engaging and talking to one another and just having that sense of community."

Madison is preparing for a major redevelopment of roughly 340 dated and deteriorating housing units for low-income, elderly and disabled residents on a big piece of “the Triangle” Downtown. 
The City’s Community Development Authority is issuing a “Request for Qualifications” for a development partner to engage residents, analyze funding opportunities and forge a vision for the CDA’s piece of the Triangle. 
The move has residents both excited and wary, despite CDA assurances that no one will lose housing as a result of the effort, which may involve renovation, demolition and new construction, or both. 
The roughly 26-acre Triangle bounded by South Park and Regent streets and West Washington Avenue was once the core of the low-income, multiethnic Greenbush neighborhood razed amid national urban renewal efforts in the 1960s.
