Call me old-fashioned, but I think a print copy of the Wisconsin Blue Book should still be distributed to libraries

Even though the content is available online.

S
Take my Blue Book and map, please: Proposal allows legislators to turn down freebies.  (Madison.com, 12/26/2015)
The proposal would eliminate the requirement to supply copies to state agencies, libraries, educational institutions and constitutional offices. Newspapers would still get one copy.
Co-sponsors of the proposal (2015 Senate Bill 343) are Devin LeMahieu (R-Ooostburg) and Rob Hutton (R-Brookfield).

If the polls are any indication, Ben Carson's grassroots are turning brown, his people are bored

As TV Ad Rates Soar, ‘Super PACs’ Pivot to Core Campaign Work. (The New York Times, 12/22/2015)
Another super PAC, the 2016 Committee, which grew out of a group that promoted Ben Carson before he announced his candidacy, is raising money in small amounts, with an average donation of $67, and has assembled a volunteer network of about 36,000 people, said John Philip Sousa IV, the group’s chairman. He said it was pouring money “into feet-on-the-ground operations and get-out-the-vote operations as opposed to television commercials that once people see twice, they’re bored.”

On the farm: Longtime big donor to Republicans has ongoing manure management issues

Brian Knox, chief executive officer of W.D. Hoard & Sons Company, has made 64 contributions totaling $31,625 since 1993.

I didn't find a Democratic connection on his Wisconsin Democracy Campaign list.

Pioneering Hoard's Dairyman Farm's problems resurface.  (Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, 12/25/2015)
The lagoon normally takes in the manure from the farm's 400 or so Guernsey and Jersey cows until it can be spread on cropland. But as part of an existing agreement with Jefferson County officials due to past manure problems, the farm started emptying the lagoon this month after tests from a pipeline connected to groundwater under the manure pit showed excessive levels of water pollution — in this case, a measure of nitrogen. Just as Laura Nyro predicted nearly 50 years ago: "Baking out in December's heat"

December Heat Tricks Flowers Into Putting On Spring Display.  (The New York Times, 12/24/2015)
Across the region, this uncharacteristically warm winter has flower beds springing to life. Daffodil bulbs in suburban gardens are sending up tender green periscopes. And in city parks, roses are showing their plumage against Christmas tree backdrops.
It is not normal.

If the polls are any indication, Jeb Bush is throwing away a ton of money

As TV Ad Rates Soar, ‘Super PACs’ Pivot to Core Campaign Work. (The New York Times, 12/22/2015)
Right to Rise, the super PAC supporting Mr. Bush, is also starting to pour more money into online messaging, where — unlike on television — its dollars go just as far as the candidate’s. All advertisers — campaigns, super PACs, even Frito-Lay — pay the same rates for digital ads.
“With TV getting a bit more crowded, we’re looking at frequency,” said Sheena Arora, a digital strategist at Revolution Agency who works with Right to Rise — meaning “how many times we’re hitting individuals across devices.” The group has been creating a wide range of ads aimed at smartphones, tablets and even Xbox gaming systems.

If the polls are any indication, the John Kasich ground game needs some tweaking

As TV Ad Rates Soar, ‘Super PACs’ Pivot to Core Campaign Work. (The New York Times, 12/22/2015)
Time to upset the applecart?  New Day for America, the super PAC supporting Mr. Kasich, is pursuing a highly advanced ground game in partnership with a data-analytics firm, Applecart: The firm says it mines data sources like yearbooks and local news reports to decipher which people have personally influential relationships with sought-after voters. Rather than giving phone-bank callers or canvassers lists of random people to contact, for example, the organizers are assigning each of those volunteers to reach 10 to 20 New Hampshire voters they know personally and convert them into Kasich supporters.

Have yourself a Mary little Christmas, with a side of Jackie DeShannon, sez Wisconsin State Rep. Scott Allen

A corrected YouTube transcription [with hand gestures noted]

Merry Christmas.

To me and my fellow christians,  celebrating the birth of our Savior,  our Emmanuelle [pregnant pause] well, it is one of the most important celebrations of the year.

For those who may watch this who are not Christians, I invite you to consider the hope offered by the Prince of Peace.   For all [of the 364 to date] who watch this, I hope that [hands gesture] you are filled with joy and high spirits,  and that your life is full of festivity and rejoicing.

If like me, you celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ, I ask you this holiday season to consider the words found in Hebrews chapter 10 0:42versus 24 and 25.
"Let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds.   Let us not give up meeting together as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another."
My friends, we attain peace through love.   This season, think of how you can love the people in your life -- family, friends, neighbors -- [right hand gesture] just a little bit more.  Encourage them, fellowship with them.

Our world needs more love and more peace.  [Hands gesture]  We do our part to make this world a more peaceful place by being more loving in our relationships.   We gain strength through love.

Hebrews chapter 10 concludes
"We are not of those who shrink back and are destroyed, but of those who believe and are saved.
Merry Christmas.

2015 Republican Presidential primary polls in review: ABC News/Washington Post

The leaders of the first ABC/WaPo poll of 2015 were Jeb Bush (21%) and Scott Walker (13%).

The leaders at the end of the year are Donald Trump (38%), who wasn't on March's candidate list, and Ted Cruz (15%), showing an improvement of a mere 3 percentage points since March.

Meanwhile, Bush's campaign tanked, and Walker's wooden performance and lavish spending forced him to "suspend" his campaign.

Selective Republican logic inoperative when applied to Wisconsin juvenile corrections program

As quoted in Statement on Alderman Zielinski’s Ethan Allen Press Release.  (Press release, 12/23/2015)

The Lincoln Hills School for Boys is located in Irma, Wisconsin, between Merrill and Rhinelander, 215 miles northwest of Milwaukee.  The majority population comprises African-American, Hispanic, Asian, and Native American youth from southeastern Wisconsin.

Why doesn't placement in or near the county of origin apply here?

Ethan Allen, the facility closed when the Walker administration decided to consolidate its juvenile corrections operations, is located in Waukesha County, just west of Milwaukee.

It makes me wonder why the Waukesha County delegation didn't use its considerable clout to save the jobs at the Ethan Allen facility. I'll leave it to you to speculate on the reason why.

Personalized books for children without the audiovisual bells and whistles

Bedtime Reading, Written by a Robot Just for You.  (The New York Times, 12/22/2015)
With its software-generated stories, Lost My Name has carved out an unusual niche within children’s publishing. Instead of relying on audio and visual bells and whistles to engage children, like three-dimensional pop-ups or buttons that play music, Lost My Name aims to make the narrative itself more captivating, by using computer codes to weave personal details into the storyline. Despite all the technology driving it, the resulting product looks and feels oddly, and charmingly, traditional.

There's also a book for boys.

“Hey, that’s my man. That’s who he is,” said Don King, the boxing promoter, discussing what he called Mr. Trump’s “outlandish” remarks. “To me, Donald is Donald. That’s not a presidential endorsement, but it is a humanistic endorsement.”
Mr. Tyson, who is Muslim, recently defended Mr. Trump, telling the website TMZ, “Hey, listen, anybody that was ever president of the United States offended some group of people.”

Probably a kiss of death in this political season of outsideritis.  U.S. Sen. John McCain has also been a vocal supporter of Graham's candidacy and has appeared at numerous campaign stops with him in New Hampshire.
