GET ME REWRITE: Pacific Life Insurance will return as sponsor of "Tucker Carlson Tonight" after the storm blows over

Greetings from Trump's America: Lake County, Tennessee

The Hard Truths of Tryingto ‘Save’ the Rural Economy.  (The New York Times, 12/14/2018)
Consider Lake County, in Tennessee. Some 7,500 people live there, about 500 fewer than in 2000. Lake County is betting on a new industrial park on Cates Landing on the Mississippi River. But it will be tough to reverse years of declining employment. Between 2013 and 2017, the county averaged fewer than 250 manufacturing jobs, according to the Census Bureau’s American Community Survey. That’s half as many as it had in 2000.

Greetings from Trump's America: Sioux County, Nebraska, where the population has declined 78% since its 1910 peak

The Hard Truths of Tryingto ‘Save’ the Rural Economy.  (The New York Times, 12/14/2018)
There are, to be sure, some rural communities with productivity as high as some big cities. But they rely on heavily mechanized and automated industries that support few jobs: oil extraction or large-scale agriculture, in which tractors talk to satellites and no drivers are involved. The livestock business on the vast pastures of Sioux County, Neb., for example, supports an economy worth $306,000 per worker, according to data from Mr. Muro and Jacob Whiton of Brookings. But only 1,200 people live there.

Last year, the HU80K projector made a splash at CES for its small, tote-it-anywhere design. This year, LG plans to show its new sibling, the Cinebeam Laser 4K HU85L, which adds voice control via the remote and the company's ThinQ platform. It packs the same compact projector into a more typical, handle-free design -- LG calls it "subtle" so it "won't distract or interfere with the viewing experience."
In addition to basic commands, the projector will be able to respond to conditional voice commands such as "turn off the projector after the movie has finished."

Last year's splash is listed at $2,999.99, currently available at $500 off.

Ramblin' Gamblin' Man by Bob Seger debuts on the Billboard Hot 100 for the week ending December 21, 1968

"Ramblin' Gamblin' Man" marks Bob Seger's first appearance on the Billboard Hot 100.  Though not a top 10 hit nationally, it spent the most weeks on the chart among the members of this week's class.

Prior to its Billboard debut, the single had already been a huge hit in Seger's hometown of Detroit, debuting at #16 on the CKLW Top 30 previewed on October 22, 1968.   On November 12th, it landed at #1 for a week.
With its adventurous playlists, CKLW provided one of the best AM radio listening experiences during the last 1960s, its 50,000 watts of clear-channel power easily making its way across Lake Erie to Warren PA and Buffalo throughout the day and night.  I was a most avid listener then.

Box calendars, on the other hand, appear to be losing their popularity

Less than a decade ago, the Barnes & Noble bookstore near Madison WI's West Towne Mall gave at least 10 times more ffoor space to box calendars.

The sales of appointment books and planners grew 10 percent from 2014-15 to 2015-16 to $342.7 million, and decorative and other calendars increased by 8 percent to $65 million in that time, according to figures from the NPD Group, a consumer research firm.

A calendar store still pops up each Christmas shopping season in the Boston Store-less center court of West Towne Mall.  Their inventory of box calendars has also decreased.
