Mr. Walters promoted prayer in schools and sought to remove classic works of literature from libraries, deeming them pornographic. He supported a plan for a publicly funded religious charter school in Oklahoma, but the Supreme Court rejected the plan earlier this year.
He has also been accused of running a disorganized state education department, and has had trouble holding onto staff.
Most recently, he has had a tense relationship with members of the state Board of Education, the body he leads. The board met without him several weeks ago, after he was accused of having inappropriate material playing on his office television during an official meeting. After an investigation, the Oklahoma County sheriff called the incident “purely an accident,” and said the images were from a Jackie Chan movie. [NSFW]
The investigation began in August 2025 when detectives from Montgomery County Precinct 3 Constable Ryan Gable's Human Trafficking and Child Exploitation Unit received information indicating Sheptock was in possession of and involved in producing child sexual assault material, including videos and images of a child under 18 engaged in sexual conduct.
Democrats (91%) and independent voters (70%) were overwhelmingly in favor of vaccine requirements for children attending public schools. Republicans were split on the issue; 44% supported mandates and 46% opposed them.

It's that time of the year again when the poultry producers are on high alert for avian influenza outbreaks.
On Friday, the Utah Department of Agriculture and Food confirmed highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) in a commercial turkey facility in Sanpete County.
“Oh, these outbreaks are devastating to the producer,” said Spencer Gibbons, CEO of the Utah Farm Bureau.
Gibbons explained how the Avian Flu outbreaks have been a problem for the last few years.
“Spread through commingling of bird populations so, that’s always a challenge for producers to try to completely eliminate but we are coming into that time of year where we have seen it since about 2022,” said Gibbons.
The court’s decision comes as there has been a push to redraw congressional maps across the country to gerrymander new partisan advantages ahead of the 2026 midterms. Republicans now have a 6-2 majority in the Wisconsin delegation.
The two challenges now before the Wisconsin Supreme Court seek to use a 2011 law Republicans authored directing the justices to appoint a panel of three circuit court judges when a challenge is filed to a congressional district.
Wisconsin state regulators on Friday recommended a three-year suspension for a former Wisconsin Supreme Court justice over his conduct while serving as special counsel to the Wisconsin Assembly.
Michael Gableman, a staunch 2020 election denier and vocal ally of President Donald Trump, was hired in 2021 by Republican Speaker Robin Vos as special counsel to the Wisconsin Assembly to head up one of four investigations into the results of the 2020 election. Gableman served in that position for one year. Vos fired him in late 2022 after he endorsed Vos’s challenger in that year’s primary election. During his tenure, the Assembly paid Gableman $117,294 and spent $2.3 million in expenses for rent, travel, consultants, outside lawyers and court fines and penalties, according to the state’s Office of Lawyer Regulation. A North Carolina GOP operative who tried to limit the state’s crucial early voting period has been named to a key post helping to run the state’s elections.
It’s the latest step by Tarheel State Republicans to undermine impartial election administration in favor of giving the GOP free rein to restrict voting.
Dallas Woodhouse, who served as executive director of the state GOP from 2015 to 2019, will serve as a liaison to local boards of elections for Auditor Dave Boliek (R), according to a memo sent by Boliek’s office and obtained by the North Carolina journalist Bryan Anderson
