Beloit Public Library in the news:
Beloit Public Library changes service model.  (Beloit Daily News, 6/28/2018)
The approach, which many libraries are moving toward, is called a service-based floor model. A project team of staff members have been working on implementation for close to a year and the library board has expressed support for the new model
Unlike in the past when a staff member usually was seated at the reference desk, staff members will now be on the move. By being up on their feet, they can help with other projects when not at the desk. With staff members being trained in all departments, it will reduce times when patrons get shuffled from one staff member to the next for different questions.
Library looks to stem losses at  Blender Cafe.  (Beloit Daily News, 7/5/2018)
In June of last year the library and multiple groups launched the Blender Cafe, a space aimed at giving Beloit Memorial High School students interested in culinary and hospitality fields first-hand job experience.
The effort was funded by multiple private backers, providing $267,000 for the first year of operations. Library Director Nick Dimassis said that rather than funding the cafe with revenue in a typical business model, the library will seek grant funding and other private means to make ends meet after sustained losses following the cafe's opening.
Currently, two managers and eight students work at the cafe, with the plan for next year slashing the total staff to one manager and three student positions, cutting the cafe's budget by over 50 percent from $267,000 to $109,000.

Library  branching out to become learning hub.  (Beloit Daily News, 9/6/2018)
"We have been fortunate to collaborate with the library as well as Community Action, Beloit Health System (at Irontek) and Beloit Learning Academy to better position Blackhawk Technical College to meet the needs of Beloit," Pierner said. "By working together, we can continue to expand our offerings to serve our Beloit students."
Nick Dimassis, executive director of the library, said the library already has provided space for the Stateline Literacy Council for the past year-and-a-half and the Southwest Wisconsin Workforce Development Board since the beginning of August. Dimassis's long-term goal is to turn 7,500 square feet of empty storage space in the library into an area that includes space for all of the library's partners.
"It's really creating this as a hub of educational opportunity and of variety, and we're reducing duplication by bringing all of these disparate groups together under one roof," Dimassis said.

Foxconn announces it will be making robotic coffee houses at Wisconsin plant.  (Techspot, 9/6/2019)
Foxconn, best known for its Chinese factories that create many of the world’s electronic devices, has announced it is partnering with Texas-based Briggo, which describes itself as the “creator of the world’s first gourmet, robotic barista.” As reported by the Milwaukee Business Times, these kiosk-sized, automated Coffee Hauses are found in airports, convention centers, and the offices of large businesses. The app-based machines let customers order in advance and alert them when their beverage is ready via text message.

The popularity of Susan as a baby name is graphed here.  Let's take a look brother Craig.

Craig struggled to gain traction during the first three decades of the 20th century but took off during the 1930s and enjoyed a respectable run in the top 100 from 1947 to 1988, peaking at #39 in 1969 and 1970.  After that it was a dive into the Sea of Oblivion, going under the surface in 2018.

Not Trump's America.

Discounting Texan Ross Perot's 1992 juggernaut and his weak 1996 encore, Trump received the lowest percentage of votes since Gerald Ford in 1976 -- 5.4 percentage points lower than Mitt Romney in 2012.  In addition, Clinton improved on Obama's 2012 performance.

Source:  Wikipedia
3rd-party candidates received 28% of vote in 1992, 7.5% of vote in 1996, 5.1% in 2016
(George Wallace received 15.3% of the vote in 1968.)

Retiring Guy's prediction:  It's just a matter of time before Democrats win this county, though 2020 might be too early to bet on with confidence.
