GET ME REWRITE: Wisconsin lawmakers go all in for GOP Attorneys Enrichment Program

GET ME REWRITE: Apparently, Burlington Area School District Board is fine and dandy with Jeff Taff's dubious program of self-directed learning

3/6/2021 update, "Aaron Melby stands with Jeff Taff and is fine and dandy living in a place where hateful racial slurs are woven into the community fabric", starts here.

WDJT, 3/2/2021
"Unless he was teaching us the full lesson plan, its hard to jump to the conclusion as to what kids were asking leading up to that," said Aaron Melby, who supports Taff's reinstatement. Melby has gotten to know Taff through church. He feels the district is not being consistent with how it reviews teachers' lesson plans.
He points to a fourth grade teacher who taught a lesson on Black Lives Matter and racism following the Kenosha riots. It drew outrage from parents.
"She was back in the classroom within days," said Melby.

Thank you, Aaron, for this mindbendingly obtuse false equivalency.

But the Garbades were unprepared for the level of racial animus that has torn their community apart since late August when a Burlington elementary school teacher included the Black Lives Matter movement in a lesson about racism.
The hateful racial slurs — burned into the woodchips of a playground, painted on the floor of a new school building and shouted at students in an online classroom. The hostility and ugly exchanges on social media and at school board meetings. [emphasis added]

1/27/2021 update, "Meet the lead voices of the cheerleading squad for Jeff Taff", starts here.

Adrianne May and Aaron Melby

A group coming to Taff’s defense has created a Facebook page called “We Stand With Taff,” on which they are soliciting donations to help the teacher pay for an attorney. As of Saturday, the site had raised more than $2,000 from more than 40 donors.
Organizers of the group, identifying themselves as Adrianne Mae and Aaron Melby, declined to comment via Facebook. Adrianne Mae had been the leader of the “Parents Against Rogue Teachers” Facebook group [apparently deleted] that formed last fall after there was community uproar following a lesson by Melissa Statz, a fourth-grade teacher at Cooper Elementary School in Burlington, about racial injustice and Black Lives Matter.
On the Facebook page, the group states that Taff is at risk of losing his teaching job for “asserting his constitutional rights.” Referring to Taff and his family, the group adds: “Let’s make sure this family knows that we support freedom, and our community cares an awful lot.”

Oh, the irony.  (Not to mention the vivid display of west-of-the-I, Mississippi-style racism.)

GET ME REWRITE: When Rick Esenberg tells the 4 lapdogs on the Wisconsin Supreme Court to roll over, they earn themselves a doggy bone

Headline from Wisconsin State Journal, 6/11/2021
“The power to take measures ‘reasonable and necessary’ cannot be reasonably read as an open-ended grant of authority,” Justice Rebecca Bradley wrote for the majority. “Doing so would swallow the rest of the statute and render it mere surplusage.” Rick Esenberg, president of the conservative Wisconsin Institute for Law and Liberty, which represented some of the plaintiffs in the case, hailed the decision.
The Esenberg-Bradley connection.

Rebecca Bradley is unfit to be a Supreme Court justice.  And that's not even scraping the surface.

"Whether the additional funding for Wisconsin's food stamp program known as FoodShare would be lost had been in question until Wednesday, when Goodsitt confirmed the money was lost for May and would be in jeopardy for the future if lawmakers do not act to enact an emergency declaration.
 [snip]
"The ripple effects of this change will be immediate and devastating for individuals, families, and entire communities," Goodsitt said.

3/31/2021 update, "  GOP lapdogs on Wisconsin Supreme Court team stomp on public health guidance, overrule Governor's ability to order COVID protections", starts here.

The long-anticipated ruling comes just days before Democratic Gov. Tony Evers' current face mask requirement is set to expire next week. It leaves the state without any virus restrictions going forward as officials look to expand vaccination efforts and health experts have confirmed the emergence of a third COVID variant.
In the 4-3 ideologically-split decision, the court's conservative majority sided with Republicans who brought and supported the lawsuit, ruling it's not within a governor's power to issue successive public health emergency orders tied to the the same crisis without legislative approval.

11/27/2020 update, "GOP lapdogs on Wisconsin Supreme Court team up with Tighty Whities @WILL to overrule local public health officials and spread the virus in Racine", starts here.

Headline from Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, 11/25/2020

From March 2, when Racine County recorded its first confirmed COVID case, through September 30, the county reported a total of 4,976 cases, an average of 23 new cases per day.

Since October 1, Racine County reported an additional 8,619 cases, an average of 157 new cases per day.

Racine County currently ranks 20th among the state's 72 counties in highest COVID-19 positive test rate per 100,000 persons.

GET ME REWRITE: Glenn Grothman regains the lead over Tom Tiffany for WISCONSIN STATE EMBARRASSMENT

The proposal allocates $225 billion for child care for children under age 5. The plan aims to cover all child care expenses for families with lower income and reduce child care costs for middle-class families, according to a CNBC report.
During the hearing, Grothman expressed concern that, in his words, the country is working toward "just having the government take care of kids before age five."
"What do you think about families who are taking care of their own children? Are you trying to make them obsolete?" he asked.
Young noted that the funds in the budget are about "trying to meet people where they are, economically" and meant to address the fact that often both mothers and fathers need to be in the workforce and that child care costs need to be addressed.

What's highlighted in red was said by a 'confrimed bachelor' who, Retiring Guy ventures, has never been on a date in his life.  With anyone.

New York Times 6/3/2021
Mr. Bailey wrote a score of books, mostly legal texts; was the host of an ABC television show, “Good Company,” in 1967; and appeared often on talk shows and the lecture circuit. He reviewed his cases in the best-sellers “The Defense Never Rests: the Art of Cross-Examination” (1971, with Harvey Aronson) and “For the Defense” (1975, with John Greenya), and wrote about flying in “Cleared for Approach” (1977, with Mr. Greenya). His 1978 novel, “Secrets,” featured a lawyer who might have been the author.

Miramont Behavorial Health facility UPDATE. Opening next month!

Photo and video by Retiring Guy

Miramont is hiring.

12/29/2020 update, "Now in its 5th month of sitting empty", starts here.

It will add to Dane County’s roughly 90 inpatient psychiatric beds, most of which are in general hospitals. Miramont will offer inpatient psychiatric care — on a voluntary and involuntary basis — for children, adolescents, adults and seniors, along with chemical dependency treatment for adults, Garone said.
Partial hospitalization and intensive outpatient care also will be provided, he said.
The facility could divert people experiencing mental health crises from jail and reduce trips by law enforcement to Winnebago Mental Health Center in Oshkosh, mental health advocates, county officials and police have said.

Psychiatric hospital in Middleton delayed again, now to be open early next year.  (Wisconsin State Journal, 2/17/2020)
Flood prevention work involving soil caused an initial delay in construction, which began in August 2018, said Mike Garone, vice president of development for Strategic Behavioral Health, the company building the facility. In recent months, the project was pushed back again because of weather, Garone said.
“The building wasn’t fully enclosed by the time the winter weather hit, and a decision was made to just pick back up in the spring,” he said. The 72-bed hospital, on Deming Way in Middleton’s Airport Road Business Park, is expected to cost $17 million to $20 million.
Construction should resume by April and the building is set to be finished by December, with the company taking occupancy in January and opening for patients a couple of months later, Garone said.

Company behind psychiatric hospital in Middleton has more problems in other states.  (Wisconsin State Journal, 8/19/2019)
State and federal officials have cut off payments and admissions at the company’s psychiatric hospital in Las Vegas, and have moved to stop payments and revoke the license of a facility near Fort Collins, Colorado, according to documents obtained by the State Journal and media reports.
The moves follow “immediate jeopardy” violations — the most serious kind given — at 202-bed Montevista Hospital in Las Vegas and 92-bed Clear View Behavioral Health in Johnstown, Colorado.
At Montevista, patients hid medications and gave them to other patients, according to a federal inspection report in June. Patients also set off sprinklers, resulting in patients escaping from the facility, including one who didn’t return.

Strategic Behavioral Health plans psychiatric hospital in Middleton. (Madison.com, 3/23/2018)
Strategic Behavioral Health, a for-profit company based in Memphis, Tennessee, plans to spend $17 million to $20 million on the seven-acre site and construction of a one-story hospital with about 55,000 square feet of space, according to documents filed with the city of Middleton.
The company has 10 psychiatric hospitals in six states, including Willow Creek Behavioral Health, which opened last year in Green Bay.
