Florida as GOP wasteland

Meet homophobe and
Florida Commissioner of Education
Richard Corcoran
masked up and ready to discriminate
Following the removal of anti-bullying resources from the Florida Department of Education website, including information regarding LGBTQ students, Florida Agriculture Commissioner Nikki Fried is providing that information instead.
In a Tuesday press release, Fried announced a set of LGBTQ resources hosted on the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services website.
“Improving the health, safety, and prosperity of all Floridians, including the hundreds of thousands of LGBTQ Floridians, is my top priority as a member of the Cabinet,” Fried said in a written statement.
“It’s so important that LGBTQ Floridians know that they matter, there are resources to help, and that we will continue to advocate for them,” Fried continued. “That’s why I believe it’s imperative that we make these resources available.”
Advocates complain that removing resources for LGBTQ students is the latest attack on LGBTQ Floridians by the Ron DeSantis administration. Earlier this month, the department scrubbed dozens of informational links from its webpage on “Bullying Prevention.”

Bray by bray: What Trump did during the pandemic (December 16-31, 2020)

December 22, 2021.  U.S. total Covid cases = 51,303,310 (188,798)

A Republican leadership aide told CNN “no” when asked if this was expected. The aide pointed out that Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin had negotiated this bill. He was the White House’s voice in the room, everyone assumed. Another aide said Trump seemed to be “coming unhinged.”   [emphasis added]
The President is upset about several provisions that were actually in the omnibus spending bill, not the Covid relief bill.

"Coming unhinged"?   Trump's being iunhinged was one of the hallmark's of his entire presidency.

Just when it seemed like the President couldn't sink any lower in his quest to subvert the November election results, his mere entertainment of invoking martial law to negate Biden's victory underscores how laser-focused he still is on his own interests at a time when the nation is mired in crisis.
The idea came up during an extraordinary Oval Office meeting Friday between Trump, members of his team and two of his most discredited outside advisers -- lawyer Sidney Powell, a fount of baseless voter fraud theories, and former national security adviser Michael Flynn, whom Trump recently pardoned and who first floated the martial law idea earlier last week.

Washington Post, 12/19/2020
After their warnings had gone largely unheeded for months in the dormant West Wing, Deborah Birx, Anthony S. Fauci, Stephen Hahn and Robert Redfield together sounded new alarms, cautioning of a dark winter to come without dramatic action to slow community spread.
White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows, among the many Trump aides who were infected with the virus this fall, was taken aback, according to three senior administration officials with knowledge of the discussions. He told the doctors he did not believe their troubling data assessment. And he accused them of outlining problems without prescribing solutions.
The doctors explained that the solutions were simple and had long been clear — among them, to leverage the power of the presidential bully pulpit to persuade all Americans to wear masks, especially the legions of Trump supporters refusing to do so, and to dramatically expand testing.

Trump ran for president pretending he was the consummate dealmaker, the chief executive who could make things happen with a snap of his fingers. He will go down in history as a president who worsened the grief and tragedy of the most consequential pandemic in 100 years by being contemptuous of masks and the safety precautions designed by his own administration -- a man incapable of empathy, who chose to remain cocooned in his White House bubble at a time when leadership would have mattered[emphasis added]

But not Trump

Trump will get the vaccine when his medical team decides it is best, according to the White House. read more The president was hospitalized after testing positive for COVID-19 this fall. Interior Department Secretary David Bernhardt tested positive for the virus on Wednesday, according to a statement from his office.
And thus began the rollout of Trump's wink-wink, nudge-nudge antivax campaign.

Meet city council member  Kelly Lynn
masked up and ready to spew more racist garbage

Ward 3 council member Kelly Lynn then called the study “garbage.”
“Looking at FBI statistics, African Americans are way more responsible for murder, robbery, all kinds of violent crimes, way disproportionate to their percentage of population. The numbers are outstanding,” said Lynn. “This seems like a big waste of time to me.”
Ward 1 council member Brandi Studley then responded.
“I am a little bit shocked by council members Lynn’s comments. I find them to be extremely disturbing and racist and I don’t appreciate that, and I apologize to our black community members that just had to listen to that,” she said.
Mayor Breea Clark also responded to the comments on Twitter, saying, “The CM’s comments were wildly inappropriate & offensive, but I don’t have the power to censure Councilmembers & although vile, what was said is protected speech under the 1st amendment. With that said, I have zero issue publicly denouncing this behavior.”

In Wisconsin, Covid cases are spiking in Rock County and hospitals are overwhelmed

In Rock County (pop. 163,687), the number of new Covid cases increased more than 67% in the past week.  And the county has already 624 cases this week.  Weekend numbers are likely to raise it above 800.

WI Department of Health Services

65% of Rock County residents are fully vaccinated compared to 61% statewide.

New York Times

Rock County set a new record for highest 7-day average of new Covid cases on December 16, 2021.  That average of 2 cases in late June and early July probably seems like a mirage now.

In Wisconsin, Waushara County still has too many unvaaccinated residents

In Waushara County (pop. 24,520), the number of new Covid cases increased more than 300% in the past 2 weeks.

WI Department of Health Services

42% of Waushara County residents are fully vaccinated compared to 61% statewide.  Not good.

Waushara County is nowhere near its record high 7-day average of new Covid cases set on November 6, 2020 but has experienced two significant spikes since early October 2021.

Based on the healdlines and pics from the web edition of the Waushara Argus, it might as well be 2019 in Waushara County.

In Wisconsin, Marinette County has been on fire with the virus since the end of summer and schools are feeling the impact

50% of Marinette County residents are fully vaccinated compared to 60% statewide.

Marinette County came very close to beating its highest 7-day average of new Covid cases in October 2021.

Four months of elevated case counts is wreaking havoc on some school districts, such as the Goodman-Armstrong Creek SD in Marinette County.
