When presented with facts, the candidates double down on their misconceptions.
The findings were not surprising to experts who study the criminal justice system. Experts said policing strategies likely contribute to the large number of traffic charges against Milwaukee County residents, as opposed to crimes involving victims.
“Violent crime in particular doesn’t spill over from neighborhood to neighborhood across racial lines,” said John Eason, a Brown University sociology professor. \
When presented with the Journal Sentinel’s findings, the two candidates stood by their statements.
