She was elected to a seat in the South Carolina House of Representatives in 2004, 2006, and 2008. She ran unopposed in the 2004 and 2006 general elections and ran against a Democratic sacrificial lamb in 2008.
She twice ran for Governor of South Carolina. In 2010, she received just 51.7% of the vote in a deep red state, after winning less than 50% of the vote in a 4-way GOP primary. She improved her share of the vote to 55.9% in 2014.
So it's been 8 years since she ran for office. A little rusty, perhaps?
