Johnson called his comments racist and Born quickly called for a vote on a measure that did not include the funding. It passed 12-4, with all Republicans for it and all Democrats against.
Afterward, Johnson tweeted a photo of the small display in a Capitol hallway, writing, "After saying 'nobody asked for this,' even though it WAS IN THE GOVERNOR'S BUDGET, his racist ass said to go look at the Capitol's tiny 3rd floor display if we wanted to learn about Black History."
