Mineral Point Library plans moving forward
Wisconsin State Journal, 1/23/2011
Excerpt: A major renovation and expansion of the Mineral Point Library is moving forward.
In November, voters in the Iowa County city approved by a more than 2-1 margin a plan to borrow up to $1 million for the $1.6 million project with fundraisers and grants making up the difference.
Officials had been counting on a $200,000 grant from the U.S Department of Agriculture's Rural Development program but found out last month that it was getting just $100,000. However, that concern was eliminated Dec. 30 when the state Department of Commerce awarded the city a $281,000 grant.
"We are ecstatic about that good news," said Barb Polizzi, director of the library, founded in 1895 and located in a building constructed in 1915.
Construction is scheduled to begin in June or July and be completed in early 2012. The library will remain open throughout the project, Polizzi said.
