t’s been almost two weeks since we’ve parked the car in the garage. The screen that covers the door has remained in place since the Andrews’ Crew reunion. Which is not what I anticipated. But we’ve grown accustomed to having this extra space, even though we haven’t spent any time hanging out here since the reunion hanging out here. Until today. An hour ago, JoAnna set up a card table and chairs and one of our TVs. Call it a Covid tailgate party on opening day of the Milwaukee Brewers 2020 season.

I should have seen this coming.

“What time are the Brewers are playing today?” JoAnna asked during our walk through Madison’s Vilas Park, which included a well-marked, one-way meander through the zoo. (We decided that we needed a change of pace from our usual ponds and conservancy routes in Middleton.)

“I’m not sure, but they probably have an early evening start,” I replied.

When the Major League Baseball schedules were first announced, I remember Andy being annoyed that more afternoon games weren’t offered.

“Then I’d have something else to do during the day,” he explained.

“We should so something special,” JoAnna declared.

‘Something special’ turned out to be a dinner prepared on the grill: flank steak, foil-wrapped sliced potatoes and onions, and corn on the cob. Andy returned home from an afternoon of disc golf and joined us for the entire evening. A most pleasant and memorable ‘safe at home’ experience. The car will most likely remained parked in the driveway for the time being.
