Saturday, March 21

The Usual Suspects go back to the mid-2000s, a group of friends that formed at the beginning of JoAnna’s first stint at the Department of Workforce Development. Occasional after-work Friday get-togethers have always been part of its social activities. Not anymore. With gatherings of 10 or more people prohibited, restaurants and bars are closed to the public, although they may remain open if they offer delivery or pick-up service.

To overcome this barrier, one of the Usual Suspects organized a virtual cocktail hour on Zoom, a meeting app. About 12 of us participated, including Ron and Margaret. Ron looked and sounded great. A stranger would have never guessed that he had undergone open heart surgery just 8 days ago. His recovery is going amazingly well. In this new world of sheltering in place, it felt uplifting and energizing to have a visual connection with friends, to have face-to-face back-and-forth, laughing and joking and sharing observations.
