Kaufman County, Texas: Why Republican strategists lose sleep at night

Dallas-Fort Worth metro area

3rd party votes:  31.4% in 1992, 10.6% in 1996. 3.4% in 2016
(Alabama segregationist George Wallace received 29% of the vote in 1968)

Trump received 8,037 more votes than he did in 2016, a 27% increase.   Biden received 8,127 more votes than Clinton did in 2016, an increase of 79%.

Trump's share of the vote decreased by 5.4 percentage points.  Biden increased Clinton's share of the vote by 7.6 percentage points

The GOP suburban problem, graphed.  (Same source as line graph above.)

Demographically speaking.

% of population 25 and older with bachelor's degree:
  • 20.5% - Kaufman County
  • 29.9% - Texas
  • 32.1% - U.S.
% of population 65 and older:
  • 11.8% - Kaufman County
  • 12.9% - Texas
  • 16.5% - U.S.
% of population living in poverty:
  •   9.8% - Kaufman County
  • 13.6% - Texas
  • 10.5% - U.S. (they're joking, of course)

With a 13 percentage point shift in the vote, it's clear that the GOP plan for dumbing down America is not working in Kaufman County.
