Wauwatosa library is considering eliminating overdue fines on children's materials to make them more accessible.  (Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, 7/16/2019)
Extensive research was conducted, including analyzing usage and financial data and looking at other libraries. The Madison and Milwaukee public libraries have not had overdue fines on children's materials for at least 10 years.
During Loeffel's presentation, he explained the difference between fines and fees: Fines are a daily penalty assessed for late return of library items. Fees are replacement charges assessed for true material loss for unreturned or damaged items. Fees would still be imposed, under the proposal.

Librarians bring imaginations to life with a fairy garden at the Wauwatosa Public Library   (Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, 7/1/2019)

Back for its second year, the garden has undergone a few upgrades, with the help of the Wauwatosa Forestry Department. City landscape architect Stephanie Wilson designed a schematic map for planting. The department also installed a berm and various plants.
“(Wilson) designed a map of where the plants would go, and which plants would lend themselves to look like fairy plants or magical-looking plants,” Marshall said.
The fairy garden has been a dream for Marshall and fellow librarian Jo-Anne Keller. The two teamed up, using their shared love of gardening and imagination to create the garden for the first time in summer 2018.
