Reactions to Closing of West Flint Branch Library: "It doesn't make sense"; "It's stupid"

Library patrons lament plans to cut Flint Public Library branches.   (Flint News, 5/10/2011)

Excerpt: Residents who regularly use the West Flint branch of the Flint Public Library were upset to hear today the library is considering closing the branch locations to save money.

"It don't make sense. We just passed a millage," said 81-year-old Flint resident Hubert Stogsdill, referring to the 0.9-mill operating tax and a 0.5-mill increase voters approved last August.

Stogsdill said he uses the West Flint branch "all the time." He just put a hold on a new book "The Land of Painted Caves" by Jean M. Auel. He said he hopes the library is still open by the time it arrives.

Along with West Flint, the Cody Library and North Flint Library branches would close if the plans are approved
