GET ME REWRITE: Divisive, far-right Ottawa Impact clowns on Ottawa County Board get yet another comeuppance

John Tunison reports:

Commissioners voted 7-4 Tuesday, July 22, to eliminate the motto, with commissioners tied to the Ottawa Impact political platform all voting no. 

The “Where Freedom Rings” motto was adopted in January 2023 under a county board then led by Ottawa Impact members. 

The Ottawa Impact majority in 2023 voted to replace the former “Where You Belong” motto as well as make several other controversial changes, including dissolving the county’s DEI office and trying to fire the county health officer. 

The board’s composition changed after the November 2024 election and just four Ottawa Impact commissioners were left. 

Board Chair John Teeples said he believes the “Where Freedom Rings” motto came to symbolize the wrong concepts.
