U.S. 40 Cross Section of the United States of America (Chapter 49: Front Range and Hogback)

That was then (1953).

From chapter 49:
The picture looks north from the so-called hogback, about a dozen miles west of Denver.  At the left, the Front Range of the Rockies rises sharply.  It is Sunday about noon, and the highway is dotted with cars, mostly of pople coming out from Denver to spend the day in the mountains.

This is now.   In 1950, the population of Jefferson County, just west of Denver was 55,687.  Today is has 576,366 residents
