Manitoba and Alberta report new cases of bird flu

Roy Graber reports:

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) reported that HPAI was confirmed in a commercial poultry operation in Strathcona County, Alberta, Oct. 8. The next day, HPAI was confirmed in another commercial poultry flock in Gimli, Manitoba. 

The CFIA did not share information on what type of poultry was affected in either case, nor did it disclose how many birds were involved. 

So far in 2026, HPAI has struck seven commercial poultry flocks in Alberta and nine in Manitoba. Those remain the only two provinces to have reported cases of HPAI this fall
