The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) reported that the presence of HPAI was confirmed in a commercial turkey breeder hen flock in Wayne County on November 18. There were 9,600 turkeys in the flock.
According to APHIS, the last time North Carolina had a situation involving HPAI and commercial poultry was January 27, when another commercial turkey breeder hen flock was affected, with that situation involving 24,100 birds in Sampson County. One day before that, also in Sampson County, a commercial turkey breeder replacement hen flock was struck, with 1,900 birds involved.
