Matt Deardeuff, an agricultural mediation specialist, said he sees cases that are more complex, involve millions of dollars and often a dozen people apiece. Some farmers have mentioned suicide.
“Just in the last month, I’ve had three people say the only way they see a way out” of their financial problems is to pay off their debts "through their insurance proceeds,” Deardeuff said.
“It makes me fearful about what’s coming down the pike, with a lot of loans that come due" later in the year, he said. “I don’t know that everyone is going to get their loans” paid. [emphasis added]
