Greetings from Trump's America: Mitchellville Iowa (population 2,485), where city government has descended into chaos

Nick El Hajj reports:
A series of high-profile firings and resignations in Mitchellville city government, and an ongoing state probe into its finances, have exposed allegations of threats, mismanagement, corruption and retaliation in the small city east of Des Moines.
Documents shared with and reviewed by the Des Moines Register allege questionable spending and employee intimidation. In the midst of it all, former City Clerk Rahni Brose expressed a desire to “line up” and shoot staff who "stir the pot" in text messages on a city-issued cell phone. “Boom, boom, boom," an April 11 text to another city employee said.
Longtime resident Elaine Webb, who has been caught up in the unrest, said the town of about 2,500 people that's home to the Iowa Correctional Institute for Women is "in turmoil."
“It’s like the whole town’s at each other’s throats," she said.

The City of Mitchellville recently began deleting council meeting recordings older than 30 days so the Register could not verify what exactly the council authorized the auditor to do. A spokesperson for the Iowa Auditor’s Office declined to discuss the audit's scope or status.
