A few miles west of Salina, Kansas, begins a broad belt of somewhat rough and rolling country known to photographers as Plains Border. Where U.S. 40 crosses it, in west-central Kansas, this region is about 150 miles broad, lying between the Osage Plains to the east and the High Plains to the west.
