Black River Falls looks to cut $62,000 from 2012 budget

No specifics yet.

Jackson County Chronicle, 10/19/2011.

Excerpt: The city of Black River Falls currently is looking to cut $62,000 from its 2012 budget to prevent a property tax increase.

The Committee of the Whole is expected to look at ways to reduce the proposed $1.73 million levy at its meeting Wednesday, Oct. 19 in light of a proposed 3 percent increase in property tax bills.

If the proposal is approved, taxpayers with property valued at $100,000 would see a $27 increase in the city’s portion of their bills, but city Administrator Bill Arndt said Tuesday he has a proposal that will cut about $12,000 from the proposed levy.

The move would trim the possible tax bill increase by $5 and keep all current city services, he said.

“I actually thought it would be worse than it came out,” he said.

The city originally had discussed the possibility of cutting city services, like recycling, to make up for a more than $69,000 reduction in state shared revenue and transportation aids that came as a result of the state’s approved biennial budget, which cut aid to municipalities.

City council members also discussed the proposed budget at their Oct. 4 meeting and were asked to come to Wednesday’s meeting with suggestions for reducing the budget if they had any proposals
